Mechatronics Course and Modules, Basic and Advanced

The Mechatronics Multidisciplinary Innovation website contains 7 Modules. These modules present the essential concepts and details, at both a basic (i.e., Associate Degree) and advanced (i.e., BS Degree with work experience) level, that each engineer must master for the practice of 21st-century mechatronics engineering.

The Mechatronics Online-Course Module Topics are described below. Each module is separated into a basic section and an advanced section, each section containing audio-visual presentations, solved problems, industrial applications, supplementary notes, tutorials, and videos. In addition, spanning the 7 modules, there is a Basic Mechatronics Case Study – a Magnetic Levitation System - and an Advanced Mechatronics Case Study – a Hexapod Robot – that result in a complete virtual prototype, along with a component list to build a complete working prototype.

The modules may be accessed in one of two ways. They can be accessed individually and studied at one’s own pace. Or they can be accessed through a 14-Week Online Course, either Basic or Advanced, monitored by the instructor with weekly zoom meetings, assignments, case study ending in a virtual prototype, and a certificate upon completion. They are: Electromechanical Engineering Systems, Essential Electronics for Mechatronics, Mechatronic Machine Design, Mechatronics, and Mechatronic System Design. The two remaining books are: (1) Engineering Rigid-Body Dynamics which is an advanced text covering the Newton-Euler, Lagrange, and Kane Approaches for solving 2D & 3D Kinematics and Kinetics Rigid-Body Problems, and (2) Introduction to Engineering for High-School Seniors which is a MatLab-based high-school senior course complete with notes, exercises, lab experiments, videos, exams, and audio files explaining all the concepts in the course.
